Low Voltage Lighting versus Solar Landscape Lighting

Lighting the landscape around your yard and swimming pool is one way to make the area look considerably more charming. Many people enjoy the attractive styles of lighting that they can place on paths, around tables, near decks and around the swimming pool. If you, like most people, are looking for more energy-efficient alternatives to traditional lighting, you have a couple of different options. You can choose from low voltage lighting, which is wired, or solar landscape lighting, which relies on the sun instead of wiring.

Options include copper, plated metal and painted fixtures. Low voltage lighting involves a power conversion to 12 V which is much lower than the electrical outlet you probably have now. While the lighting isn’t quite as bright as LED lighting, the cost is lower. Low voltage systems are also safer because the wiring is low voltage and doesn’t have to be buried deeply into the ground.

Many people prefer solar lighting around their swimming pools, paths, gardens and other areas of the yard. Another option for environmentally sound lighting is solar landscape lighting.  One of the advantages of solar landscape lighting is that it is simple for you as the user. You don’t have to worry about installing wiring or setting up the lighting near an electric outlet. This is why they are so popular with many people. They can quickly set up the lighting and don’t need to call an expensive contractor to do the work for them, no matter how little knowledge they have about lighting.

For solar lighting to work, you are going to need direct sunlight. Solar cells are activated by the sunlight they receive. You will need to determine what areas of the yard receive direct sunlight when you place the lighting around the yard. The more sun you receive, the better, as solar cells will store light and illuminate your yard during the evening hours.
